The International Music Symposium will be held by Uludag University State Conservatory between 12 -14 October 2016, in Bursa, Turkey. The main subject of the symposium is “Performance in Music”. Under this main subject title, some determining factors such as performer-audience connectivity and its surrounding social structure, (re-)production and consumption of music, have been the point of departure for the following subtitles:

•  “Performance Orientation” including the variety of interpretations and applications,
• “Performance Psychology” in relation to states such as affection, anxiety and motivation,
• “Individuality in Performance” through the creative artistry, individuality and other characteristics,
• “Social Factors in Performance” related with the issues such as gender, status and role,
• “Performance Ethnography” through its anthropological and historical dimensions,
• “Relation of Performance and Body” by means of incorporation of body into performance, physical comfort and physical problems,
• “Relation of Performance and Space” by means of perfomance location, musical performance and its spatial organization,
• “Performance Critic” through self-criticism and art criticism,
• “Education of Professional Music Performer” by structuring the higher education programs and corporate organization.

These subtitles are not restricting for submissions as long as the subject of music performance remains as the focal point. Moreover, during the symposium there will be artistic practices representing new methods and approaches in music performance.

The aim of the symposium is to make a contribution to the literature based on the research and application of the subject, to identify potential problems and make suggestions for both artists and researchers by sharing information, experiences and commentaries in this platform.

We will be happy to see all artists and researchers who wish to contribute to this artistic and scientific gathering.

Methodologies for studying musical performance range from the macro-focused to the micro, from radically contextualized, long-term musical ethnography, to minutely detailed description and analysis of the subtle bodily movements used to play musical instruments. “The dimension of music performance is immense because, the endeavour or the education in order to realize it, is incredible. When the subject is approached only in terms of professional or mass training in music, only one dimension arises. Performance is a training ofcourse, but it is a culture, tradition, oral transmission, ideology, passion, intellectual accretion, cultural heritage and cultural capital. It is all of these but not only one of these. When its academic, aesthetic and social dimensions come into question, we encounter "inevitable" new areas of interest”
